The Volunteers Assisting Seniors with Transportation (VAST) program is designed to meet the needs of seniors who have an essential but non-urgent medical appointment and have exhausted all other options to obtain a ride (Paratransit, Wheels Dial-A-Ride, relatives, friends and neighbors). The program supplements existing public and paratransit services by providing door through door transportation via volunteer drivers and staff. The program does not provide emergency or same day transportation.
Seniors 60 and over
Live in Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore and Sunol
Unable to find a ride with a relative, friend or use other means of transportation
Able to transfer in and out of a vehicle without assistance.
Need a ride to a medical appointment or health related service.
Hours: Rides are available Monday – Friday by appointment only. Cost: All rides are provided FREE of charge.
Service Area: We will attempt to find a volunteer driver for a medical appointment anywhere in the Greater Bay area.
Drivers: Volunteers are local community members who are interested in helping seniors. Volunteer drivers and travel escorts are recruited, screened, trained and supervised by Senior Support Program staff. Criminal background checks are conducted on all volunteers. Volunteers drive their own vehicles and must abide by strict privacy and confidentiality guidelines.
